SUMMARY:Musical Circles: A Story of Music and Friends
DESCRIPTION:What happens when music is born from friendship? Join Duo Miow for The Musical Circle\, an intimate violin and piano concert. \n\n\n\n\nDuo Miow is a vibrant\, Melbourne-based violin and piano partnership founded while studying at Yale by violinist Ye Jin Min and pianist Kevin Chow. Combining their extensive international experience as both performers and dedicated educators\, the duo is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of musicians and making classical music accessible to all. Their repertoire spans from timeless masterpieces to pioneering contemporary works\, always reflecting a shared passion for artistry\, mentorship\, and community-driven innovation. \nWhat happens when music is born from friendship? Join us—violinist Ye Jin Min and pianist Kevin Chow—for an intimate evening that’s less about a formal stage and more about the people who keep us going. This program\, The Musical Circle\, is our way of sharing stories of connection: the kind that spans centuries and the kind we find in our own backyard right here in Melbourne. \nProgram Includes: \nBach\, Schumann\, Brahms\, Beach and more… \nWe start with a musical conversation across time\, as Robert Schumann’s piano parts wraped around J.S. Bach’s timeless violin melodies like a warm embrace. You’ll also hear the F.A.E. Sonata\, which was basically a musical “surprise party” written by three best friends—Schumann\, Brahms\, and Dietrich—to honor their friendship. \nTo round things out\, we’re sharing the soaring\, romantic world of Amy Beach\, followed by some high-energy tangos\, jazz-inspired rhythms\, and a few surprises that bridge the gap between the concert hall and the club. \nCome as you are\, and let’s celebrate the connections that bring us together.

SUMMARY:Kevin Chow - Greatest Hits: The Art of Piano Transcription
DESCRIPTION:Join celebrated Australian pianist Kevin Chow for an evening of unparalleled virtuosity and musical alchemy at Tempo Rubato. The Art of Piano Transcription is a deep dive into the high-wire act of solo piano arrangements\, where one instrument takes on the power of an orchestra and the intimacy of the human voice.\n\n\nThe title pays homage to the 19th-century tradition when transcriptions were the primary way music was shared; long before the invention of the radio or the record player\, these piano arrangements acted as the “greatest hits” of the day.\nThe program is a curated journey through the evolution of the transcription. It begins with the spiritual clarity of Bach\, reimagined through the Romantic lens of Ferruccio Busoni and Dame Myra Hess\, before moving into the monumental Passacaglia in C minor.\n\n\n\n\nThe second half of the program elevates the technical stakes to their limit. Kevin will perform the lush\, shimmering song arrangements of Arcadi Volodos\, followed by Liszt’s operatic tour-de-force\, Réminiscences de Norma. The evening reaches its climax with Samuil Feinberg’s explosive transcription of the Scherzo from Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique Symphony\, a work so complex it creates a breathtaking “wall of sound” that must be seen to be believed.\n\n\n\nPROGRAM\n\n\nBach/Busoni – “Nun komm\, der Heiden Heiland” BWV 659Bach/Hess – Jesu\, joy of man’s desiring BWV 147Bach/Weiss – Passacaglia in C minor\, BWV 582Bach/Rachmaninoff – Suite from Violin Partita No.3 BWV 1006Rachmaninoff/Volodos – “How fair is this spot” Op.21 No.7Rachmaninoff/Volodos – “Melodiya” Op.21 No.9Rachmaninoff/Volodos – “Andante” from Cello Sonata Op.19Liszt – Réminiscences de Norma\, S.394Tchaikovsky/Feinberg – “Scherzo” from Symphony No.6\, Op.74\n\n\nBookinghttps://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1517961\nEvent Pagehttps://www.temporubato.com.au/tempo-concerts/kevin-chow
